Politics: Work to End DoMA This Saturday!
Event Details: Work to End DoMA This Saturday! - :
With the inauguration of Barack Obama swiftly approaching, Join the Impact wants to make sure that he has gay rights (somewhere) on his agenda. They will be sending this letter to him on his first day in office, asking him to end the “Defense” of Marriage Act and Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policies as soon as possible, among other things.
The funny thing about letters is, at the bottom, someone needs to have signed them. This is where you come in! On Saturday, January 10th, we will be meeting at Dupont Circle Park at 1:30pm to send out volunteers all across the city (or at least to the really gay parts) to get people to sign the letter. This is a national event, and DC needs to do its part. I will be there, possibly going to Georgetown, and if that isn’t reason enough to attend I don’t know what is. Check out the Facebook page for more details. If you are interested in getting involved as a contact person, please contact Kellan Baker (kellan.baker@gmail.com), Ryan Carter (rc2661a@american.edu), or Tara Culp-Ressler (tara.cr@comcast.net).
If you can’t make it Saturday or are afraid of other humans, you can also print out a copy of the signature page, sign it yourself, and mail it in by January 12th. It can’t get easier than that.
Obama will be seeing his BFF, Rick Warren, on Inauguration Day. We need to make sure he sees us, too.
First time here? See what we're all about... Get involved... Send us a tip!...
