TNG: In Case You Missed It – 12/12/08
A good friend once, in the midst of a finals-induced pseudo-panic attack, uttered this profoundly simple sentiment: “Life is hard. It’s amazing we don’t lose stuff more.” And it only gets truer! Our lives are a crazy series of exercises in multitasking. With this in mind, we at TNG present this new weekly feature, “TNG: In Case You Missed It,” in which we round up the most popular and talked about TNG posts from the previous week in one easy-to-digest post. Forgot to check out the site one day and are afraid you missed something big? Wanted to reply to a fellow commenter, but don’t feel like searching around for the original post? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!
Check out below for all of the best we had to offer this week, just in case you… well, you get where we’re going with this.
This week (or so):
In Commentary:
• TNG reader and movie reviewer Adam introduced many of us to, and sparked a great discussion about, the mysterious world of “g0ys” – or Non-Gay Christian Men Who Just Happen to Blow Other Dudes. Have an opinion on the g0y movement? Make your voice heard!
• We were provided with definitive proof that MTV reality shows, like the rest of the media, are really good at perpetuating gay stereotypes and were challenged to change that fact.
• Along similar lines, we asked if it was OK to laugh at these stereotypes – if people are Laughing With Us, Or At Us?
• An open letter was addressed to Barbara Walters which asked WTF exactly is up with her list of this year’s most fascinating people (Miley Cyrus? Really?). Check out your fellow readers’ fantasy list selections.
• First-time Contributor David Stallings wondered “Why Don’t I Listen?” Whether or not he was listening, TNG readers were reading.
• Dispatches from Left Field wondered what the deal is with all of the awkward questions surrounding straight actors kissing one another on film.
• Hipsters were finally and definitively identified as the End of Civilization as We Know It.
In Music:
• We interviewed Shane German, the frontman of DC’s own Soft Complex. Be sure to check out the band’s performance at this Saturday’s TNG dance party.
• We evaluated the current state of hip-hop in America and followed it up with TNG’s own intro to the genre via our very own mixtape.
• We let you know what we’re listening to and then encouraged you to listen along.
In Politics:
• Ed Jackson began his ode to gay marriage. Stay tuned for the rest!
• Then we tackled the issue of gay marriage in DC specifically and asked: are we Putting the Cart Before the Horse?
Also:
• We told you what you’d be up to this weekend.
• We sadly said goodbye to Stephanie, who’s leaving us for a bunch of little kids. Good luck, Stephanie!
