Noted dyke filmmaker Cheryl Dunye (Watermelon Woman, Stranger Inside, My Baby’s Daddy) screens and discusses some of her shorter subjects, tonight, at the National Museum of Women in the Arts.
Watermelon Woman remains a pivotal piece on the intersection of race, class, and gender, and was pretty much required viewing for any queers coming of age in the 90s. It also paired hot couple du jour Dunye and then-girlfriend Guinevere Turner. Man, nothing sets us old-timers’ tongues a waggin’ like some lesbo gossip, circa 1996.
