Film: Trevor and the 24-hour Hotline

Part 1 of three installments of the short film Trevor. Parts 2 and 3 are below the fold.
I first saw the award-winning short film Trevor years ago as part of a “Boys Shorts” segment at Reel Affirmations entitled “Boys Life 2″. I ended up purchasing the DVD of “Boys Life 2″ just so that I could see Trevor again and again. Alas, for some odd reason, it wasn’t included on the disc, and as such I haven’t seen it since. But it still stands out in my mind very distinctly.

Trevor is the story of a young boy who develops a crush on a male classmate. The two become fast pals until Trevor finally gets up the nerve to make a move. His advance is not welcome and tragedy ensues. There were a lot of moments in this film that I, a recently out-and-single gay man coming to terms with his sexuality, really connected with: The excitement of a new friendship, the yearning for something more, the extreme letdown, and the electric spark that comes with the realization that things will indeed get better. I finally tracked down Trevor on YouTube, and have embedded all three parts, the first above and the second two below the fold.

The movie is also the inspiration for a 24-hour help line for suicidal queer youth. While it was founded 10 years ago, The Trevor Project was recently spotlighted on CNN.com, which inspired us to revisit Trevor and help spread the word about this great resource. If you or someone you know is in need of help, please don’t hesitate to call the 24-hour hot-line: 1-866-488-7386 or (866) 4.U.TREVOR.
