Politics: San Francisco Values

Kay Barns is the former mayor of Kansas City, and is currently running for Kansas’ 6th Congressional District seat. It appears that Kay and Nancy Pelosi are friends, and the speaker is helping Kay raise funds for her bid for congress. A friend recently clued me in on the video below: an attack ad against Ms. Barnes, where her opponent criticizes her for her “San Francisco Values” such as gay marriage, amnesty for illegal immigrants, and abortion “on demand.” And oh, it’s rich.

Read below the fold for a bit of commentary.

The best part is that when they describe these “values” they show two women (one white, one brown) and a man (brown) holding cocktails and doing “the bump” at a nightclub. I was wondering, which one had the abortion? Which one was illegal? Obviously the guy is the “gay” since he is wearing a sleeveless t-shirt. But where’s his husband?

If conservatives are going to portray us in attack ads, the least they could do is actually show us and not some awful actors being told to “look gay and touch one another indiscreetly.” Why not show footage from Folsom? Or actual illegal immigrants? Or aborted fetuses? Isn’t Kansas ready to see that stuff on TV?

That’s Kay Barnes response, where she basically calls him pathetic. It’s pretty sweet.

And what kind of bar is that where there’s only 3 people.

I’m happy someone posted Kay Barnes’ response. It’s the epitome of class.

Anyone else made slightly uncomfortable by the fact that the group is multiracial? I think there’s more going on in the subtext of this ad than homophobia…

But shouldn’t bible-belt conservatism support amnesty?

Leviticus 19:33: “When a stranger sojourns with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong… [he] shall be as native among you, and you shall love him as yourself; for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.”
