Hot Chip Concert: Recap & Photos

Felix Martin of Hot Chip sat down with Zack on Friday afternoon before the show (check out the interview in the post below this one), but they also gave us a sweet photo pass, so I was able to snap a few shots from the floor/vip booth, which you can see here (Click “Slideshow” if it doesn’t open as such). The crowd was too packed for me to get close to the stage (and unfortunately I’m still learning photography), so these photos are the best I could manage.
They kept the crowd jumping for most of the show. “Over and Over” was played halfway through and was well received, of course. They didn’t play their cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Everywhere,” (I can’t find it anywhere, outside their live performances) but they did play a smashing up-tempo version of my favorite song,”Crap Kraft Dinner,” which I interpret as the story of a man thinking about a broken relationship and coming to emotional closure, and doing so while at a rock show/dance club, surrounded by his friends. That’s my interpretation, anyway. Powerful stuff. Zack loved it and looked it up on YouTube when he got home that night. Not sure how I can get my hands on the up tempo remix. The show ended on a high note with “No Fit State,” which transitioned into a cover of New Order’s “Temptation.”
Overall, everyone left the show happy, and many ended their night at Town for the Cut Copy CD release party with DJ Ca$$idy and Mikey Vader, because folks got in free with their hot chip ticket (some really cute kid was outside 930 club handing out flyers to everyone coming out of the show). I only popped my head in for 10 minutes, but it seemed like folks were having a good time, including a group of straight people who didn’t realize they were in a gay bar until they were on the middle of the dance floor. Zack and I had a good laugh watching the wave of recognition wash over them.

Thanks for introducing me to Hot Chip! They are great and they have wicked videos. I wish I could have gone to their concert!
