The Craigslist w4w Crisis

We all know this: the w4w ads on Craigslist suck. Both the Missed Connections suck, and the Women Seeking Women, suck. Is it because lesbians are hopelessly earnest, irredeemably dorky, and terrible at spelling? Perhaps. Is it because we don’t know an attractive picture from an unnatractive picture? Is it because we don’t understand how these ads are supposed to fucking work? Ladies, I know we can do better. For the next week I challenge All DC-Area Lesbians to place a regular or Missed Connection ad on Craigslist that does not suck. One that you yourself could imagine responding to. Do it. And report back.
Is it because we inadvertently bait necrophiliacs?

I gave up reading them two months ago, right when I wrote this:

I feel like Craigslist has lost even its entertainment value lately because the posts are just so badly spelled and inane.
This post is so necessary and so right - a crisis indeed.
I also appreciate all the CL dykes who post about how much they miss their exes on missed connections, and then I laugh at the ten billion lezzies that think it is about them. Lesbian news alert: 90% of lesbians feel the same wrath of self pity and emptiness upon loosing their little snicker-doodle; that post requesting just one more night of scrabble and wine is not about you.
That picture is super creepy. I just don’t understand why people don’t know how to post attractive pictures of themselves online.
great, now i’m addicted to the CG missed connections page…thanks alot, TNG!
it seems as though you’re being drastically insensitive to the complexity of approaching another woman at a bar, gym, etc - with the exact intention of asking: “wanna pretend im dead and fuck”
come on, don’t we all appreciate the obscene honesty in these ads?
i’ll never give up on w4w, but am also dismayed at the utter lack of cruising in the dyke scene. or should i say, cruising with follow-through. case in point–last wednesday’s very well-attended night at be bar. not a single missed connex! come on ladies, if gay guys can put their necks on the line what the hell is stopping us?
are guys really putting their necks on the line? i think the gay to lesbian ratio in d.c. is approximately 400:1, so guys have much more anonymity in their postings.
when the ladies make missed connections, it can definitely lead to awkward or uncomfortable moments when it’s time to take attendance at the next dyke event.
nevertheless, i was surprised at the lack of post be bar postings as well.
Leave your response!

TNG started off as a DC-based blog/website for alternative queer culture, events and commentary, but we've realized our writing and concept isn't applicable only to DC. We're working to expand into other cities throughout the US. Here's how you can help:* Become a city events editor.
In order to be a good fit for helping us out, you have to meet two criteria: you need to be prepared to spend some time at this, and you need to be frustrated with the current status of queer culture in your town. If you think you have what it takes, please let us know by emailing info@thenewgay.net.* Write for TNG.
