This man claims to champion civil rights in my state...

... so long as he doesn't have to dismantle his own prejudices. It is certainly unfair to allow one's own particular parochial, doctrinal interpretation to trump our First Amendment, which is supposed to free us from the tyranny of particular religious customs--- his being the belief that sex-gender stereotypes and obscure biblical passages take priority over any commitment to equal protection of the laws.
What this charlatan "civil rights" leader is advocating is another institution, separate but equal to marriage. He has taken up a page from racists past who cloaked their bigotry under the guise of a "separate but equal" doctrine, which the Supreme Court in Brown v Board of Education ruled to be an oxymoron in the American civil rights vocabulary.

The Post portrays him as a tortured soul, but I have little sympathy for those who struggle to continue to deny equal rights to their fellow citizens.

Thanks for the comment, Charlotte. I agree with you, but a lot of the people in this country don't. In my post, was hoping to provide even more rationale for why marriage is good for our society, hopefully rationale that can't be easily trumped by morals and the bible like so many of the other arguments can.

Marriage is a basic civil right that should be attainable by all Americans if they choose. For the truth about gay marriage check out our trailer. Produced to educate & defuse the controversy it has a way of opening closed minds & provides some sanity on the issue: www.OUTTAKEonline.com

It is exactly the same for me. In college, when I had a girlfriend, I was far more productive and spent less time going to bars/parties, on the Internet, or doing other things that pull me away from doing work. I attribute some of my lackluster grad school experience to feeling like I had to go out and meet people in an effort to meet my "next lay" instead of spending more time on my work.
