Music: Listen: Concerts from 2008 SXSW Festival

It’s not a big secret that NPR offers full-length concerts on its music website, but if you haven’t been there in a while, you might want to check it out soon. The 2008 South by Southwest Festival (SXSW) concluded earlier this month, and NPR has a nice treatment of the event, with over 20 concerts recorded and available on their website, including “REM,” “Vampire Weekend,” “Yo La Tengo,” and “My Morning Jacket.” Also included are many of the 2007 performances. They’re nice to listen to while you work.

I haven’t heard most of these bands, but i’ve found it a good introduction to new music by talented artists. My favorites have been Jens Lekman (pictured), who is playing at the Black Cat this week (his concert was endearing and beautiful), and “Yeasayer“, who reminds me of Fleetwood Mac. They play at the Cat on the 10th. I have no one to go with, so hit me up at ben@thenewgay.net if you want to join me.

I warned you all a month ago to buy Jens tickets. But did anyone listen to me?

Actually, did anyone listen to me? It would be cool to hang with TNG folk while I’m there.
