Music: Thursday: Eric Himan + Tom Goss

Event Details: Thursday: Eric Himan + Tom Goss - :

This post was submitted by Robert, a local sociologist who can neither sing nor play guitar.

Admittedly, I am not a big fan of singer-songwriters. I much prefer a driving bass-line and a methodical rhythm section with creative time signatures. Lyrics and nuanced melody are secondary for my approval. That said, as I have gotten older, I have been better able to appreciate the art of the singer-songwriter and the versatility of expression that it embraces.Tonight, November 29th, I plan on broadening my musical horizons as Solly’s Tavern (on the corner of 11th and U street NW) welcomes two gay singer-songwriters. The headliner is Eric Himan from Tulsa, Oklahoma. His sound is straight forward contermporary folk with melodies tinged with soul. He wails about bartenders, long distance relationships, and the cliche solitary process of “soul searching.” www.erichiman.com

Opening up is Tom Goss from right here in DC. His sound is a bit more straightforward than Eric’s, and in my opinion, more evocative. www.tomgossmusic.com

Oh, and if you don’t care for the music, they are both pretty easy on the eyes. The show is 5 bucks and starts at 8:00. I am looking forward to checking out Solly’s. It is great to see new venues on U street support local talent.

hailing also from tulsa, i can vouch for himan if you’ve ever felt like a lesbian in gay male body, but probably not the other way around.

I’m all for more homos going to Solly’s. Its a good bar and its really close to my house. Plus, when there’s not bands playing they have two surpisingly well-stocked juke boxes.
