Taint is the old-standard, tried and true queer indie dance party in DC. We’ve had it once per month for over 3 years now. The formula has changed little since it first started in the summer of 2004, but that’s just the way we like it.

What is this formula, you ask? Taint is:

• 20% lounge space, 70% dance party, 10% performances
• 20% women, 80% men, 98% queer
  
• 60% indie rock/pop, 40% other dancable goodness
  

Taint is always on Sunday nights. The Sunday nights before Monday holidays are a bit different than other Taints. John at BYT explains why.

The TNG Survival Guide for a Holiday Taint in 7 Easy Steps:

1. Get there before 11 PM (to avoid the line and have access to a virgin jukebox).
2. Open a tab at the bar downstairs.
3. Feed the jukebox downstairs with about $5, programming in really good music.
4. Sit at a booth downstairs with old (or new) friends, have about two or three drinks while watching people walk in and mull about outside waiting in line. Send a scout upstairs every 20 minutes or so to see how the music and crowd is.
5. Head upstairs around midnight.
6. Dance your ass off, dipping downstairs to the bar when drinks are needed.
7. Head downstairs around 1:30 AM*, close your tab, step outside and watch the sidewalk sale.

* Last call on Sunday nights is still around 1:45 AM, regardless whether Monday is a holiday or not.
