Music: Preview: The Blow @ Black Cat on Thursday

Event Details: Preview: The Blow @ Black Cat on Thursday - :

Portland’s The Blow is technically a duo, but their shows generally just consist of lesbian vocalist Khaela Maricich dancing and singing along to pre-recorded beats. While that does sound slightly worrisome, I’m pretty confident that Maricich’s awesome voice and songwriting will carry her through any awkwardness.

The Blow’s 2006 album Paper Tiger Television has been slowly growing on me since I first heard “Parentheses” (video below the jump, bear with the first 40 seconds) which quickly became my new favorite love song. The rest of the album (especially “Fists Up” and “True Affection”) is also so good that I would probably pay to just stand at the Black Cat mainstage and listen to it on my headphones.

The Blow appears with Saturday Looks Good To Me and Karl Blau on Thursday at the Black Cat. Doors open at 8.

I could not possibly be fonder of this song:

    Their album is “Paper Television.”

“Paper Tiger” is a Spoon song. Which I also love.
